The House of Representatives has urged security agencies in the country to redouble efforts and ensure security of lives and property.

The call is sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by Rep. Jonathan Gaza (SDP-Nasarawa) at plenary on Thursday.

Moving the motion earlier, Gaza said that there had been a recent unrest in Tattara and two other communities in Kokona Local Government Areas of Nasarawa.

According to him, it has resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of members of the communities.

Gaza said that reports and investigative assessments indicated that the skirmish was between Mada communities and Fulani herdsmen.

The lawmaker said  the Nigerian government and security agencies had been making frantic efforts to provide lasting solutions to the menace but more work needed to be done.

“Disturbed that the local communities have been in a state of unrest as a bloody tribal conflict looms in Kokona LGA, the inhabitants have been left in sorrow, blood and tears by their assailants.”

He noted that the people had become worried about the complaints of the Tattara inhabitants because of the deadly escapades of the attackers, now increasingly becoming unsettling in the Western part of Nasarawa .

The Federal lawmaker urged the house to take all necessary steps by way of legislative action to ensure the security and safety of Nigerians remained top priority of the national assembly.

The house urged government to take immediate action to end the unrest in Kokona and called  on the relevant security agencies to carry out immediate investigations and prosecute the attackers.

The lawmakers also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate intervention to those affected, including internally displaced persons.

The parliament recommended that the Federal Government should have a more proactive approach geared at beefing up security in rural areas to forestall future recurrence of this dastardly act.

The parliamentarians observed a minute’s silence in honour of those who lost their lives in the unrest. (NAN)
